From a Found Relative in our DCFS Program:

“In August of 2024 I was sent a letter by DCFS notifying me my older brother was looking to get in contact with me. I was shocked and a little scared of the unknown. I took 3 weeks to make a decision on if I wanted to move forward or not. After taking that time I decided I wanted to go though the correspondence process. I shared very basic information with my brother because all of this was new to me and I wanted to take it slow. Throughout the process I had a lot of anxiety and was unsure of this new person who is coming into my life. I was also sad at times because I wish I knew him and my family sooner. The 3 correspondences gave me a glimpse into his life and the rest of our family. I am happy I made the decision to go through with this. Once the correspondences were done we were able to call and text. Our relationship now is good and we talk often. Through him I was able to meet my other siblings. I plan on meeting them in the summer.”
